ViaBOM: AI component search for PCB design
ViaBOM is an AI component search and bill-of-materials workspace for electronics hardware teams. Describe the part you need in plain English, constrain it on any datasheet parameter, and get back a ranked shortlist with the tradeoffs explained rather than a long list of unranked search results.
What ViaBOM does
- Component search in plain English. Ask for "a 60V synchronous buck that survives load dump" instead of assembling a parametric query, then filter and sort on any extracted parameter.
- Datasheet extraction. ViaBOM reads manufacturer datasheets and extracts the electrical, thermal, package and pinout parameters into structured, comparable fields, with every value traceable to the document it came from.
- BOMs and projects. Keep revisions, quantities, notes and sourcing state for a board in one place, and compare candidate parts against the design you are actually building.
- Libraries. Curate approved-part libraries with versions, so a team can reuse the parts it has already qualified.
- Rulesets. Encode design and sourcing policy — voltage derating, package restrictions, lifecycle status, preferred manufacturers — and apply it to search results and BOMs automatically.
- Distributor pricing and availability. Live stock and price breaks from distributors, alongside the parametric data.
Using ViaBOM from an AI agent
ViaBOM exposes its catalog and workspace through a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so an agent can search components and edit BOMs directly.
- MCP endpoint:
https://api.viabom.com/mcp - Transport: streamable HTTP
- Authorization: OAuth 2.0. Protected-resource metadata is published at https://api.viabom.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource (RFC 9728); the authorization server is

Read-only tools include search_components, get_component_details, get_datasheet_overview and get_component_pricing. Workspace tools cover projects, BOM lines, libraries, rulesets and settings, and every tool is annotated with read-only, destructive and open-world hints.
